
Permits and Certificates
To ensure compliance with its planning by-laws, the Municipality requires a permit or certificate of authorization for most projects undertaken by a citizen.
It’s also a way for the Municipality to monitor land-use planning.
Obtaining a permit or certificate of authorization allows you to:
- Locate appropriate uses and structures.
- Perform safe work that complies with municipal standards.
- Avoid errors that may jeopardize the safety or legality of a project, which could result in avoidable costs and inconvenience.
A permit or certificate of authorization allows you to do:
- Construction
- Renovation
- Tree cutting
- Pool installation
- Fence, wall or hedge installation.
- Excavation or backfilling work
- Etc.
Permit forms
Before submitting your form, please ensure that you include all of the following documents:
- A signed power of attorney from the owner allowing the applicant to apply for a permit on their behalf (if applicable);
- Proof that the land on which the construction is to be built is owned by the applicant, if the applicant acquired the land less than one (1) year ago;
- Since your land is part of a lot, you must hire a land surveyor to carry out a cadastral operation to identify your lot on the official cadastral map;
- Plans and precise details concerning water withdrawal (use, flow rate, location, elevation, type of construction and materials used) (provincial law, mandatory);
- The contract or bid from the well driller hired to do the drilling;
- A development report including a soil study and a scaled location plan provided by a professional order accredited for septic systems (provincial law, mandatory);
- The contract or bid from the well driller hired to do the drilling;

- The contract or bid from the well driller hired for the drilling;
- A site plan including a soil study and a scaled location plan provided by a professional association accredited for septic systems. (provincial law, mandatory)
- Scaled construction plans and estimates for the work to be performed, including:
- The plan for each level;
- The four elevations with the EXACT level of the finished floor (north-south-east-west);
- Construction details;
- A typical cross-section of the walls showing the materials used;
- For each room, indicate its intended use.
- A site plan drawn to SCALE:
- of the proposed and/or existing building(s);
- the planned septic system and those in the neighborhood;
- the planned well or water supply connection, as well as those of the neighbors;
- wetlands, riparian strips, and flood zones;
- A certificate of location must be submitted to the municipality when the foundations are poured.
